DescriptionThis portrait of Don Luis A. Ferré is a collage painting that presents the founder of the Museo de Arte de Ponce at the top of the iconic spiral staircase in the vestibule of the museum’s main building, inaugurated in 1965. For this portrait, the artist drew inspiration from a photograph by Pablo Cambó Prida (b. 1948), published in an article in the national newspaper El Nuevo Día the same year Irizarry created the portrait. In the background of the composition, Irizarry presents a selection of paintings and photographs that allude to various aspects of the Ponce philanthropist’s life. Noteworthy among the particularities of the work are the real buttons attached to Ferré’s guayabera.
