Not on viewDescriptionSir Thomas Lawrence was known as one of the finest portrait painters of his generation, becoming the third president of the Royal Academy in 1820. Here, Lawrence depicts Prince Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and son of King George III of England. The duke is portrayed with his numerous military titles, the Order of the Garter and the Order of St. George among them. This portrait was long awaited by Londoners and made its public debut in the Royal Academy's annual exhibition in 1814.
