Description
As part of the Museo de Arte de Ponce's collection, this work has offered a wonderful counterpoint to the European tradition of the nude by representing a new archetype of beauty inspired by the Caribbean woman. The voluptuous body of this “Venus”, modeled with lights and shadows and achieved through the application of short and determined brushstrokes, shows a mastery of drawing and a knowledge of the female anatomy. The artist’s time as a student at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas in Mexico is evident in the figure's sculptural form.
