Not on viewDescriptionThis panel which may have formed the crowning feature of a larger altarpiece and clearly depends on Umbrian models, such as Perugino’s painting in the Certosa di Pavia; nevertheless, it is very characteristic of Mazzolino. The type of God the Father occurs elsewhere in Mazzolino’s work, notably in the Holy Family in the National Gallery, London. An almost identical version of the Ponce painting is in the Dr. Giacomo Bargellesi Collection, Milan. Zamboni dates the Ponce version to c. 1515 and slightly earlier than the Bargellesi version.
