The story tells of how the King decided to abdicate his throne and divide the kingdom between his three daughters, Cordelia, Goneril and Regan, who must demonstrate their love in speech and receive lands accordingly. Cordelia refuses to participate and is disinherited by her father. She later returns, now married to the King of France, to restore Lear to the throne. After a horrible battle, France loses and Edmund, the love interest of the other two sisters condemns Cordelia and Lear to death, who briefly reconcile before their sentence. Edmund is later fatally wounded by his half-brother, and upon seeing this, Goneril kills herself, after having already poisoned Regan.
