DescriptionThe indoor view captures the architecture of a colonial house in Old San Juan, turned into a bar. Located in the Plaza San José, the establishment was a gathering place for artists, intellectuals, and writers. They met there to listen to the jazz pianist Gladys Johnson and her inspired improvisations. Together with trumpet player Dale Wales, she popularized jazz among Puerto Rican artists and intellectuals. Prints and paintings of various sizes adorn the walls of the bar, which in its heyday served as a modest gallery for artists such as Tufiño himself. The light of the setting sun projects the outlines of the fanlights over the doors onto the back wall. Although no customers are present, the scene evokes a Bohemian ambiance of camaraderie by the dim light of the street lamp.
