DescriptionThis painting by Cecilio Colón Guzmán received an Honorable Mention in the Fine Arts Contest of the Ateneo Puertorriqueño in 1985. A “suggestion” of building silhouettes and windows that are entangled in geometric shapes with the appearance of trees and branches. According to the artist, this painting explores the relationship between humans and their natural environment. With the abstract language of Colón Guzmán's early work, in which the greenish tones of the natural landscape play a central role, this painting shows nature as a victor against the material "havoc" caused by human beings. On the back of the canvas, the artist wrote a note that reveals that Evolution of Man and Silk-cotton Tree was painted over a previous work he made on the same canvas in 1980.
