DescriptionThis work highlights three key elements in the iconography of twentieth-century Puerto Rican painting: the "jíbaro," a humble yet dignified peasant who lives in the mountainous interior and stands as a counterpoint to outside influences; the "bohío," the "jíbaro’s" home, depicted as the ideal dwelling amidst the lush countryside; and the landscape, which showcases the majesty of Puerto Rican nature. These become symbols of the authentic values of Puerto Rican culture, untouched by external influences.
