Description
Much of the artist’s work during these years springs from his interest in creating figurative images with a general or even universal reading. His production is directed toward reconciling the “universalist” principles of abstract art with the tradition of “socially significant” figurative art that existed in Puerto Rico in the mid-century. He works with subjects of general interest, as in this case. The character’s threatening figure alludes to meting out justice or prosecuting transgressors. Marín breaks down the figure into geometric areas, using distortion to emphasize the personage's muscle structure, who takes on an air of monumental solidity.
