Studied & exhibited in Madrid, then at age 21 went to Paris to study at Ecole des Beaux-Arts, exhibited at salon of 1868. Traveled from Paris to Bayreuth & Venice 1877-82; became friend of Wagner. Lived in Paris for remainder of his life.
