Julio Zachrisson

Panamanian, born 1930
BiographyAwarded with the First “Premio Aragon Goya” of engraving. Julio is linked biographically to the Spanish literary and artistic world. His work shows an interest for presenting with critical and reflexive eye the world that surrounds him. Dedicated to both painting and engraving, he lived, during the fifties in Mexico, the hard struggles between de muralists and the people that was looking for new shapes. His neutral position allowed him to assimilate the positive side of each vision, stimulated by the renovating creative movement that was emerging from all the discussion. Motivated by the curiosity that was generated in him when he saw some reproductions of Goya's work in 1961, he travelled to Europe and after visiting El Prado and seeing the spanish painter's great work, he decided to stay in Madrid. Facing the dilemma of integration to the European art world without denying his own identity, he was able to create pieces of work with a unique personality, in which his American roots and the influence of Goya, Picasso, Ernst and Klee, coexist. His work can be found in many museums and collections, such as - Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid. - Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Madrid. - Museo de Brooklyn, New York. - Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, New York. - Museo Del Grabado de Buenos Aires.
