DescriptionThis canvas is one of several paintings by Carlos Cancio that center bathers or swimmers as motifs and pools as principal settings. The large format of these works allows viewers to experience the scene in an immersive way—almost as if they were watching the swimmers from the glass in an aquarium. The remarkable corpulence of the figures betrays a meticulous study and reveals a dynamic interpretation of the human body through drawing, light, and color. The contortion of the bodies and the distinctive shade of turquoise blue are recurring features in other similar paintings by Cancio.
