DescriptionRoche Rabell is internationally renowned as one of the most prolific artists of Puerto Rican postmodernism for his neo-expressionist canvases that are often autobiographical and of monumental dimensions. The one we present here is possibly one of his most intimate artworks, because in this one he immortalized his mother, surrounded by the flowers and branches of the canary bush from his family’s patio. It is also significant within the artist’s production because it was his first foray into the technique of “body printing,” which became a major part of his visual language and contributed to his success internationally. Characteristic of his production are also the bright colors applied with paint-laden brushstrokes that produces a marked relief on the surface of the canvas and the impression of leaves that swarm the composition.
