Description The sitter’s name was América, a young woman of Cuban and Spanish descent who worked as a model at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Madrid), where Waldemar Morales painted her likeness. Her attire appears to be made from an orange-colored silk fabric. The wide sleeves, embroidered with silver thread, are inspired by the Moroccan caftan, a popular garment in mid-twentieth-century Europe, even among some of the most renowned designers of the period.
