Not on viewDescriptionAccording to the Gospel of John, Thomas was the only apostle who initially did not believe the news that Jesus had resurrected. This painting shows the scene that took place a few days later, when Jesus appeared to the reunited apostles and asked Thomas to put the hand into his side and the finger into the wounds of his palms. The strong contrast of light and shadow in this painting is similar to that of other artists of that time, but the Genoese Strozzi stands out for his artificial sense of color and his strong, gestural brushstrokes.
