It is a model for a stained-glass window in the royal chapel of Saint George, Windsor Castle, which explains the luminous colors and the shape of the canvas. The Gothic style of this design associated with stained-glass windows was perceived at the time as Christian and English; however, the style of this dynamic composition and the anatomy and physical types are clearly related to Italian seventeenth-century painting.
