DescriptionThis work, attributed to Spanish artist Juan Correa de Vivar, depicts the moment when Jesus's body is taken down from the cross. Kneeling beside him are John, Jesus's beloved disciple, his mother Mary, and Mary Magdalene at his feet, among others. Their reverent and mournful expressions are meant to serve as examples for the viewer, who would perhaps kneel in front of the image in a similar fashion.
