Not on viewDescriptionThis still life once belonged to a larger painting showing the Holy Family in Joseph's workshop. Frequently, these religious scenes combined fantastical elements, such as the two angels descending upon the family, with more orthodox objects of daily life. Such is the case for this fragment depicting various kitchen items that would have been familiar to the average viewer, thus creating a more relatable portrait. The half-moon shape of the original painting suggests it once belonged to the upper register of a monastic church. Given its irregular form, it might have been easier to sell the work by parts rather than as a whole.
