DescriptionAndean indigenous heritage, such as Inca architecture, permeates this work. The pyramidal shape that dominates the composition is a reference to the temples of Ingapirca, an important archaeological site in Ecuador, of the Inca Cañarí pre-Columbian culture. Like in other works by Tábara, texture plays a prominent role in this composition. Some linear abstract designs worked spontaneously and organically break the severe lines of the composition, establishing an alternate rhythm and suggesting the presence of living organisms or ceremonial elements. Despite the painting’s modest dimensions, the pyramid’s dominant rendition grants the work a monumental appearance. This work is part of the 1960’s acquisitions of Central and South American artworks for the Museo de Arte de Ponce’s collection of Latin American art.
