Not on viewDescriptionThe Miracle of the Fish II contains elements characteristic of Rafael Trelles’s production in the 1990s: the use of decalcomania; the inclusion of fantastic figures and the deified or Marian female figure; the merger of the human and the natural; and some references to the indigenous heritage of Puerto Rico. Also, the title establishes an ambiguous connection with the biblical story of the miracle of the loaves and fishes. The colorful, exuberant Caribbean landscape evinces the artist’s interest in the protection of the environment for the enjoyment of all. Although Trelles confesses to the existence of certain thematic elements in his paintings, his work is receptive to numerous interpretations.
