Not on viewDescriptionGustave Doré was a ver prolific illustrator in the nineteenth century. In search for inspiration for his illustrations of Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote, Gustave Doré made a trip to Spain between 1861 and 1862 that took him to Andalucía, where he documented his observations of the people and traditions of the region. In this scene, framed by a glowing evening light, the artist highlights five young women in mantillas—the traditional lace headpiece typical in that region of Spain at the time—, presented before the silhouette of a village in ruins in the distance.
