DescriptionJesús María Sanromá, a renowned pianist born in Carolina, became a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the age of 24, and performed more than 3,000 recitals and 60 recordings. This is one of the works in which the artist combined various images to create a composition that appears like a photomontage. A zoomed-in image of the pianist's hands, a scene of the musician performing, and a representation of Sanromá's profile on his piano appear on the same surface, as if his figure were captured from different angles through a camera lens and broadcast on television. The title of the work may refer to Rhapsody in Blue, a jazz composition by the composer George Gershwin, whose 1935 was performed by Sanromá. When creating the profile image, Irizarry may have been inspired by a photograph by J. Abresch of the pianist in his youth.
